Elephant Watch Camp has been created on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River. It’s truly unique: very intimate, very simple, close to nature in its approach and not least with regard to the local and abundant wildlife. It is luxurious but in a style of its own. The camp gives its guests a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be taken right into the midst of the extraordinary elephant world in an intimate but non-invasive encounter.

There are six spacious netted tents hanging under a wide thatched roof, each with it’s own verandah and stunning view. Each room has a king-size bed with side tables, books, and solar-powered bedside lamps. The tents are ensuite, with eco-loos and showers outdoors so guests can enjoy a shower under the stars with hand-pumped water from the camp well and heated by the sun from painted buckets. Much of the food is own-farm grown, and homemade.

The great majority of the camp’s staff are from the local Samburu community. Their experience and training means guests can get close to the elephants during game drives. Walks and picnics, as well as sundowners are popular activities. Further afield, guests can climb Ol Donyo Sapache Ololokwe, the sacred Samburu mountain (with the option of overnighting on its summit).

The Camp supports the work of the charity Save The Elephants, whose research site is nearby.

The Camp can be reached by air on a scheduled flight to Samburu National Reserve, or from Nairobi the drive takes about 5-6 hours via Nanyuki, Isiolo and Archer’s Post.
