When ol Donyo Lodge was built it was at the forefront in the setting up of a community-based tourism model. The lodge is located in the heart of the 275,000 acre Mbirikani Group Ranch, on the slopes of the Chyulu Hills, between Amboseli and Tsavo National Parks in the southeast of trhe country. It is a stunning location amidst a wide variety of wildlife within particularly unspoilt landscape, and with Kilimanjaro as a constant backdrop.
The Lodge has 10 luxurious and large guest suites in six stand-alone villas, each of which is quite distinctive. All the suites have views of the Acacia-dominated savannah and Kilimanjaro. The lodge is widely recognised to be one of the more attractive in East Africa.
There are many activities available: early morning, early evening and night game drives, guided bush walks and hill hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking. The lodge is child-friendly, with specialist staff to entertain younger safarists. Guests are welcome to visit local conservation and community projects.
Sundownwers or taking englsh tea in the bush are musts. Sleeping under the night sky on private star-beds and fly camping are also unforgettable experiences.
