Kenya

A land of contrasts and changing landscapes: from Mt Kenya’s snow-capped mountain straddling the equator to the Indian Ocean coastline, to Lake Victoria, largest tropical lake in the world and the source of the River Nile. From the spectacular Great Rift Valley that cuts across the country close to the middle from South to North, through the lush tea plantations and forests of the highlands, and the wildlife-rich savannah grasslands, to semi-arid regions to the northeastern regions, and the nation’s cosmopolitan capital, Nairobi. Kenya has much to offer the traveler.

Kenya is home to the “Big Five” – the African lion, African elephant, leopard, black and white rhinoceros, and buffalo. The country has set aside large areas of land for its national parks and game reserves, including the Maasai Mara, arguably the jewel of the crown, which witnesses the annual wildebeest migration – one of the Natural Wonders of the World.

Kenya is a richly diverse country with 42 ethnic communities. The Swahili culture originally established on the coast dates from the 1st century. There is also a thriving arts scene, with numerous musical and cultural events and festivals throughout the year, including the Lamu Festival and the Storymoja Hay Festival.
